Whilst making the P38 manifolds I had adapter pieces which allowed me to use either the old manifold's or the P38's with the the old system. These extended the 57mm collector section of the manifold's further back. Allowing the single runner velocity more space to push into. With the old system still in place, You could feel the increase in gas velocity at the tail pipe which meant the pressure at the runners had been shifted further away from the heads. Whilst this was an improvement, it was still there !
I decided I wanted the new system that was full bore 57mm from end to end. I wanted to follow the path of the old one and the ability to retrofit the old silencer, in case of future legislation (who Knows). In making this; if you follow the centre line of the old pipes, then you can run into problems as the new pipe is a lot thicker. E.G. on the long horizontal runs it will hang down more. The only place I followed centre lines was where I can retrofit the silencer.
The Silencer is a genuine Glass pack Cherry Bomb, I wanted the original. It was worth it, it is a quality item. The system has released all the back pressure. Before the back pressure was so high that intentional back fires had a crack to them as in a lightening strike. Where as now the pressure is so low they barely make a noise, just blow the soot out.
This picture is of the silencer before painting it to blend in. Where it dissapears, it reaches half way across that Mudflap. You'll see this in a later picture.
From the rear, today
This picture is from underneath. Looking towards the tail pipe. Its all Hung on the Original mounts but, the end on needed a spacer.
This is a nice shot of my feet and the horizontal pipe on the Offside. This was as close as I wanted it to the fuel tank.
This is the piece that replaces the original silencer. I used the connectors off the old silencer and pipes but bought some new laser cut stainless flanges from eBay.
This picture shows the swept Y piece and the lower flange for the spacer pipe.
